Oxford Unveils “On the Move” Study

OXFORD, Ala.- The City of Oxford has released the results of its “Oxford On the Move: A Plan for Bike and Pedestrian Route” study, outlining proposed improvements aimed at strengthening walking and cycling connectivity throughout the community.

The findings were presented during a special session of the Oxford City Council, held on February 24th at Oxford City Hall.

David Coggin of Sain Associates presented the study’s results, which were developed using public input gathered through community surveys and a public forum. Residents were asked to identify where they currently walk and bike, along with areas where they would like to see expanded access and safer connections.

According to Coggin, the plan is intended to serve as a long-term roadmap for improving Oxford’s bicycle and pedestrian network. The study evaluates opportunities for new and improved connections along local roadways and proposes potential routes designed to enhance accessibility across the city.

One of the plan’s primary goals is to connect Historic Downtown Oxford with Oxford Lake Park while also expanding pedestrian and bicycle access toward Choccolocco Park.

City leaders say the study provides a framework that can guide future infrastructure projects as funding opportunities become available.

Maps and detailed planning documents from the study are available on the City of Oxford’s website. The Oxford City Council will now review the recommendations before deciding whether to formally adopt the plan, a step that would allow projects to move forward as funding is secured.
