Spring Garden sweeps baseball doubleheader with Sand Rock

SPRING GARDEN – The Spring Garden Panthers picked up their first two wins of the baseball season on Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Sand Rock. The Panthers won the first game 8-1, then took a 12-0 decision in the nightcap.

In the first game, Clayton Sadler led the Panthers (2-2) at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBIs. Ben Baker tripled, doubled, walked twice, scored two runs, and had two RBIs. Zack Scogin went 2-for-3.

Joel Hunter had a hit, a walk and a run. Brady Ruark added a hit and a run. Dawson Ellzey finished with a hit and a walk.

Zane Edwards earned the win on the mound. He tossed 4 1/3 innings and allowed no runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Cooper Tucker led Sand Rock (1-4) at the plate by going 2-for-4. Brycen Murphy managed a hit and a run. Isaiah Lewis, Ryker Woodall, and Bailey Martin each went 1-for-3.

Nick Clanton talked twice and Gaven Glenn walked once.

Glenn suffered the loss after working 5 2/3 innings. He gave up five earned runs on 10 hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Sadler struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits for the Panthers. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs.

Hunter went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs. Baker was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs. Ruark was also 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and a RBI.

Scogin doubled, walked, scored a run, and drove in another. Edwards walked, scored a run, and had a RBI. Ellzey and Kaylor Free both walked and scored a run. Hayes Gutherie drew a walk.

Lewis and Lucas Morgan had the lone two hits for the Wildcats. Martin suffered the loss.

Spring Garden is at Cedar Bluff on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Sand Rock is at Collinsville, also on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
