Road Resurfacing Project to Begin on Pleasant Valley Road in Rainbow City

Rainbow City — A major resurfacing project on Pleasant Valley Road is set to begin this week, bringing significant roadway improvements to a key corridor through the city.
Wiregrass Construction will begin installing construction signs on February 23, 2026, with base repair work scheduled to commence on Wednesday, February 25. The project will span 6.01 miles, extending from U.S. Highway 411 to U.S. Highway 11.
The scope of work includes base repairs, leveling, resurfacing, and traffic striping. Base repairs are expected to take approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Following completion of those repairs, the roadway will undergo a curing period, with construction scheduled to resume in late April or early May.
The contractor has been allotted 60 working days to complete the project, not including the curing period. Officials anticipate that most of the work will take place in early summer. Motorists should expect single-lane closures while construction is ongoing.
The total cost of the project is approximately $3.1 million. Funding is being provided through federal funds administered by the Metropolitan Planning Organization, with a required 20 percent local match. The project was awarded to Wiregrass Construction through a competitive bid process conducted by the Alabama Department of Transportation.
City officials encourage residents and commuters to exercise caution in the work zone and allow additional travel time during the construction period.
