GAYLESVILLE – Jack Sentell delivered a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the first inning to help propel the Gaylesville Trojans to a 22-1 season-opening baseball victory over visiting Talladega on Thursday.
Sentell finished the day driving in five runs. He walked twice in the second inning, once in the third, and drove in five runs for the game.
The Trojans (1-0) scored 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning to blow the game open. They finished with 17 walks in the game. Sentell, Hayden Dodd, and Bradley Smith walked three times each.
Aydn Heinrich went 3-for-3 to lead the Trojans at the plate. Cole Hendon was 2-for-4. Lucas McCollough singled and drove in two runs in the bottom of the second.
Dodd picked up the win on the mound. He tossed three innings of no-hit ball with a walk and four strikeouts before being relieved by Hendon.
Gaylesville hosts Ider on Saturday at noon.
