COLLINSVILLE – The Collinsville Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and closed things out with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 12-2 season-opening baseball win against Spring Garden on Friday.
Gavin Lang led Collinsville at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs, a walk, and six RBIs. Noah Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and a RBI. Jeremiah Killian doubled. Sylas Adams added a hit, a walk and three runs. Mason McAteer managed a hit, a walk and two runs. Jacob Niles finished with a hit. Chase Godshall and Carson Clanton both scored a run.
Brantley Daugherty earned the win after tossing three innings. He gave up two unearned runs on a hit with a walk and four strikeouts. Killian worked two innings and allowed a hit and three walks with three strikeouts.
Zane Edwards and Clayton Sadler had the lone Spring Garden hits. Edwards also walked and Sadler drove in a run. Joel Hunter and Free scored a run. Zach Scogin, Jake Marlow, and Brady Ruark each drew a walk.
Edwards suffered the loss after working 3 1/3 innings. He gave up a pair of earned runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Sadler worked 2/3 innings and surrendered a hit and a pair of walks with two strikeouts. Hunter tossed 1/3 of an inning and gave up four earned runs on four hits with a strikeout.
Spring Garden travels to Piedmont on Saturday at 11 a.m. Collinsville is at Etowah on Saturday at noon.
