Alabama Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday Set for Feb. 20–22

Alabama shoppers will have the opportunity to prepare for severe weather while saving money during the state’s 2026 Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, scheduled for Friday through Sunday, February 20–22.

The tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on February 20 and continues through midnight on February 22. During this time, eligible severe weather preparedness supplies can be purchased free of Alabama’s state sales tax. Many cities and counties across the state are also participating by waiving local sales taxes on qualifying items.

Eligible supplies include a variety of emergency preparedness items priced at $94 or less, such as flashlights, batteries, weather radios, and first-aid kits. Portable generators priced at $1,564 or less may also be purchased tax-free during the holiday.

Shoppers can check whether their city or county is participating and view the complete list of eligible items by visiting the Alabama Department of Revenue website and reviewing the official Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday fact sheet.
