Petition Launched Following Removal of Jesse Battles From Republican Primary Ballot

Amid widespread backlash to the Alabama Republican Party Steering Committee’s decision to remove Jessee Battles from the Republican Primary ballot, a lot of discussion has emerged among voters pushing for grassroots action, and people asking if anything can be done to reverse the decision. A petition has been launched, and Battles himself released information about contacting the Republican Party to try and incorporate an appeal from people displeased with the action. You can read that statement here along with a link to the petition.
“UPDATE:
First, thank you! The calls, texts, messages, and comments have been humbling. Your outrage is justified, and the powers that be need to hear it.
Here is what you need to do right now:
- Contact Party Leadership Directly
Before anything else, make your voice heard. Email Alabama Republican Party leadership and tell them this decision does not represent you and does not reflect the will of the people.
Joan Reynolds, Chairwoman

Shannon Whitt, Chief of Staff
shannon@algop.org
Shannon did not have a vote in this decision. It was made by a majority vote of the Steering Committee. But leadership must hear directly from the people who are being silenced by this action.
- Sign the Petition
We are putting real numbers behind the outrage. The State Party needs to see exactly how many people this decision affects. Add your name and send a clear message that our community will not be ignored: https://secure.winred.com/jessebat…/ballot-access-petition
Now let’s be clear about what happened here.
This was not a decision made by your neighbors. It was not made by people who live here, work here, or understand what we are fighting for. It was made by insiders protecting insiders, behind closed doors, directly impacting thousands of hardworking Republicans.
This is not about one candidate. This is about you.
It is about our community’s voters being told they do not get a choice. It is about whether party insiders make decisions in back rooms or whether the people decide. That is the foundation of everything we claim to stand for.
Many people have suggested I seek an Independent run. I won’t be running as an Independent because I am a Republican who has worked tirelessly for this party for over a decade. I believe in the Republican Party. I believe in its principles. And I believe it is worth fighting for from within.
Make no mistake, this decision must be challenged and reversed, or we set a dangerous precedent.
If we allow this to stand, we send the message that voters do not matter. If we stay silent, we give permission for it to keep happening. That is unacceptable.
This is about fairness. It is about transparency. It is about defending the people’s right to choose their own representatives.
Now is the time to speak up. Now is the time to stand firm. Together, we will not be ignored!”
