Multiple Agencies Respond to Tidmore Bend Shooting; Suspect in Custody

Gadsden-A shooting in the Tidmore Bend community of Gadsden on Wednesday evening prompted a large multi-agency response and left one person airlifted to a regional trauma hospital.
The incident occurred around 6:30 PM in the 1000 block of Tidmore Bend Road, in the vicinity of Tidmore Bend Grocery. Authorities confirmed the shooting happened at a home close to the store, not at the business itself. Employees who heard the gunfire secured the building and took action to keep people inside safe.
Witnesses reported hearing shots after a vehicle pulled up near the residence. Responding agencies included the Gadsden Police Department, Gadsden State Police Department, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services.

First responders located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was treated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to a landing zone near the Mort Glosser Amphitheatre, where they were airlifted to a regional trauma hospital. The victim’s identity and condition have not been publicly released.
The shooting occurred in an area where multiple law enforcement jurisdictions meet, and the Gadsden Police Department was determined to be the lead investigating agency.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates the suspect, identified as Matthew Lucas, arrived at the victim’s residence and an argument ensued. During the confrontation, Lucas allegedly fired into the residence, striking the victim before fleeing the scene.
Officers secured the scene, rendered aid, and began gathering information. Detectives quickly identified Lucas as the suspect and obtained a search warrant. The Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group assisted in executing the warrant. As units approached, Lucas fled in a vehicle, later returned to his residence, and attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
