Sheriff Shaver, Chief Deputy Summerford and Investigator Hairston Attend National Sheriffs’ Conference
Meet with Alabama Delegation in Washington

Washington DC- Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, and Investigator Josh Hairston recently attended the National Sheriffs’ Association Winter Conference in Washington, D.C. While in D.C., Sheriff Shaver and Chief Deputy Summerford participated in productive meetings with Senator Katie Britt, Senator Tommy Tuberville, Congressman Mike Rogers, and other members of Alabama’s congressional delegation to discuss future funding opportunities and legislation to support law enforcement.

During meetings at the U.S. Capitol, Sheriff Shaver and Chief Deputy Summerford presented Senator Britt with a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office pullover in appreciation for her strong support in securing a $300,000 federal grant for the Sheriff’s Office.

The conference featured training and seminars on emerging technology—including AI—officer wellness and mental health, jail management, school safety, drug enforcement, and many other topics. Several committee meetings were also held, including the Education Committee, on which Sheriff Shaver serves. Beyond the training, one of the most valuable aspects of the conference was networking with sheriffs and staff from across the nation to exchange ideas, share lessons learned, and bring proven strategies back home to Cherokee County.
