Gov. Kay Ivey Backs Utility Bills Ahead of House Committee Review

Montgomery Gov. Kay Ivey is voicing support for a package of utility-related bills set to be considered by the House Committee on Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure.

The committee is expected to review House Bill 403, House Bill 399 and House Bill 392. Ahead of the meeting, Ivey said the proposals are aimed at protecting energy costs for Alabama families while keeping the state competitive for economic growth.

“For Alabama to remain the best state to live, work and raise a family, we have to grow the state while keeping our cost of living low,” Ivey said in a statement. “That certainly includes our utilities, and we are seeing discussions in states around the country about best ways to lower those bills for families.”

Ivey said the legislation represents steps to protect energy costs for residents while maintaining Alabama’s ability to attract business and industry.

The governor also highlighted her appointments to the Alabama Public Service Commission, pointing to PSC President Cynthia Almond and Commissioner Chris Beeker as examples of leadership focused on serving the public through the regulatory body.

“I thank the Legislature for working on this very relevant issue,” Ivey said.
