Gadsden Parks Gets New Director

GADSDEN, Ala. – Mayor Craig Ford has announced that Durell Richardson has been named the City of Gadsden’s new Director of Parks and Recreation.

Richardson brings nearly a decade of experience to the role, having previously served as Gadsden Parks and Recreation Department’s Athletics Supervisor.

“I’m excited to see Durell leading our Parks and Recreation Department,” Mayor Ford said. “With the ongoing expansion of the Gadsden Sports Park and the upcoming construction of the Gadsden Athletic Center, sports and other activities are growing quickly in our city. It’s important that we offer people of all ages opportunities to have fun and stay active, and Durell has the skills and experience to keep us moving forward.”

Richardson holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Faulkner University and has more than nine years of experience in parks and recreation leadership and athletic programming.

He is also a recipient of the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) District IV Gene Cornett Merit in Recreation Award.

In his new role, Richardson will continue overseeing citywide programs and signature events, including the Veterans Day Parade, Christmas Parade, and multiple youth and adult sports programs.
