Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Receives $300,000 Federal Funding for Armored Vehicle
Centre-The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $300,000 federal appropriation to support the purchase of an armored vehicle for law enforcement operations.
According to the sheriff’s office, the project has been in development for the past two years, with Chief Deputy Josh Summerford working with U.S. Senator Katie Britt to secure the federal funding. Officials said the acquisition would not have been possible without that support.
Sheriff Jeff Shaver expressed appreciation for the funding and continued backing of law enforcement efforts.
The armored vehicle will be assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team and is intended to enhance the agency’s ability to respond safely and effectively to high-risk incidents, including armed barricaded subjects, active threat situations, and hostage situations.
Officials say the investment is expected to improve officer safety, strengthen operational readiness, and enhance the department’s ability to protect Cherokee County residents while supporting coordinated responses with neighboring law enforcement agencies.
