The Cedar Bluff Tigers (18-10) are surging at the right time.
With area basketball tournaments set to begin this weekend, the Tigers have won five in a row and will play Pleasant Valley in the first round of the Class 2A, Area 12 tournament at Sand Rock on Saturday at 7 p.m.
On Thursday morning, the Tigers moved back into the top 10 at No. 10 in the final Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings of the season.
While Cedar Bluff moved up, the Sand Rock Wildcats (18-11) dropped out of the poll after being ranked 10th last week. Sand Rock takes on Gaston in the 2A, Area 13 tournament on Friday at 7 p.m.
Class 3A Piedmont (17-7) remains at No. 8. The Bulldogs take on Westbrook Christian at Glencoe in the 3A, Area 12 tournament on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Staying in 3A, the Collinsville Panthers (15-6) continue to be nominated. The Panthers play Fyffe in the 3A, Area 13 tournament at Geraldine on Saturday at 7 p.m.
In the girls poll, Class 4A Cherokee County (27-2), Sand Rock (20-10), and Cedar Bluff (21-6) all held their positions from last week’s rankings at Nos. 3, 4, and 5 respectively.
Cherokee County hosts White Plains in the 4A, Area 12 tournament on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Sand Rock hosts Pleasant Valley on Friday at 5:30 in the 2A, Area 13 tournament. Cedar Bluff battles Gaston in the 2A, Area 13 tournament at Sand Rock on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Collinsville (11-9) and Piedmont (11-14) continue to receive nominations. Collinsville is at Sylvania on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the 3A, Area 13 tournament. Piedmont battles Westbrook Christian at Glencoe on Saturday in the 3A, Area 12 tournament.
