Sheriff Jeff Shaver Urges Residents to Take Simple Steps to Prevent Crime

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ala. — Sheriff Jeff Shaver is reminding residents that simple precautions can go a long way in keeping the community safe.

“As we go about our daily routines, I want to remind everyone that a few simple steps can go a long way in preventing crime,” Sheriff Shaver said. “Being aware of your surroundings, protecting your property, and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right all help keep our community safer.”

The sheriff’s office offers several practical tips for crime prevention:

  • Watch out for scams: Be cautious of unexpected calls, texts, or emails requesting personal information.

  • Report suspicious activity: Contact the sheriff’s office if something doesn’t seem right so deputies can respond quickly.

  • Lock your doors: Secure your home, vehicle, garage, and shed.

  • Protect valuables: Keep items out of sight and use locks or other security devices.

  • Record serial numbers: Maintain a list or take photos of serial numbers for tools, equipment, and other valuable items.

Sheriff Shaver emphasized that law enforcement relies on community partnership to maintain safety. “Our deputies are dedicated to keeping our community safe. Your partnership matters. Let’s work together,” he said.

Residents can contact the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office to report suspicious activity or seek additional guidance on protecting their homes and property.
