Rome Tourism Generates Nearly $150 Million for Local Economy in 2025

ROME — Tourism in Rome, Georgia continues to be a major driver of economic growth, according to the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism 2025 Annual Report. Visitor spending in Floyd County reached $149.9 million, marking a 0.7% increase from the previous year and sustaining an upward trend in the local tourism industry.
The report notes that tourism supports 1,535 jobs in the service and hospitality sectors, while generating $12.2 million in state and local tax revenue. Officials estimate that without this income, each Floyd County household would need to contribute an additional $332 annually to replace the taxes generated by visitor activity.
Sports, group travel, and special events played a particularly significant role in the county’s tourism economy, producing $25.96 million in direct economic impact. Key events included the Wings Over North Georgia Air Show, the USTA Southern Tri-Level Tennis Championships, the Georgia Elite Classic, and other tennis tournaments. Tennis and pickleball events accounted for nearly half of this impact, while events at the Forum River Center contributed 21%, other sports events 18%, and miscellaneous events 11%.
“With every visitor who comes to Rome, we see a ripple effect that strengthens our community and fuels economic growth,” said Lisa Smith, Executive Director of the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism. “Tourism brings opportunities—supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and enhancing the quality of life for everyone.”
Looking ahead, the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026 while continuing to attract sports, group, and event travelers that contribute to the local economy.
The report draws on data from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Tourism Economics, and various federal and state sources, including the U.S. Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics. The 2025 economic impact figures reflect events and activities where the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism provided direct support.
