Lady Warriors’ Barton picks up 100th career basketball win

HIGDON – Cherokee County High School girls basketball coach Richard Barton picked up his 100th career win Tuesday night in the Class 4A, No. 3 Lady Warriors’ 68-41 triumph at Class 2A top-ranked North Sand Mountain.

Ellisan Givens led the Lady Warriors (27-2) with 15 points. Nevaeh Gaidurgis came away with 14 points. Brooklynn Bruce tallied 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Deannia Starr and Marie Crane both contributed six points. Crane’s points were on a pair of 3-pointers. Jolie Alexander finished with five points.

Kayden Reyes led North Sand Mountain with 11 points. Madison Renfro added seven points. Abby Schaffer and Kayleigh Roberts finished with six and five points respectively.

Cherokee County led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter and built a 39-24 edge at halftime. The Lady Warriors held a 55-34 edge after three quarters.

Cherokee County hosts the Class 4A, Area 12 tournament beginning on Friday. The Lady Warriors open tournament play against White Plains at 5:30 p.m.
