Sand Rock girls suffocate Spring Garden

SPRING GARDEN – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats held Spring Garden without a made field goal until almost midway through the second quarter in a 52-14 basketball victory on Saturday.

Molly Grace Lay led the Class 2A, No. 4 Lady Wildcats (18-10) with 15 points, five steals, and two assists.

Hadlie Weaver sank three 3-pointers and had nine points along with three rebounds. Kaylee Burns contributed nine points, nine rebounds, and a steal. Maddie Clanton came away with eight points, five rebounds, and a steal.

Macey Pruitt posted five points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Emma Casey finished with four points and nine rebounds.

Maya Jennings led the Lady Panthers with eight points, five rebounds, and an assist.

Sand Rock jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter. All eight of Spring Garden’s points in the quarter came on free throws. The Lady Wildcats extended their lead to 31-10 at halftime and 42-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Sand Rock hosts Piedmont on Monday while Spring Garden travels to Gaston.
