CEDAR BLUFF – Cedar Bluff senior point guard Kylie Vadon has a knack for posting a big game following a subpar performance.
Back in December, Vadon scored just eight points in a loss at Sand Rock. Her next game against Pleasant Valley, Vadon posted a triple-double with 43 points, 15 rebounds, 13 steals and eight assists in a 58-point victory.
Vadon not only scored a career-high that night, but she also set a new Cedar Bluff girls basketball record for most points in a single game. The former record was held by Angie Langley, who had 38 points in a game in the mid-1990s.
Flash forward to Friday evening at home against Spring Garden.
Vadon was once again coming off another eight-point outing in a 19-point loss to Sylvania on Thursday. She posted another triple-double, with a game-high 30 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 steals with three assists in a 68-24 Lady Tiger victory.
Not only did Vadon deliver another triple-double, but she also surpassed 2,000 points for her career.
“I didn’t know I was anywhere near 2,000,” Vadon said. “I’m glad I’m reaching goals, but I feel like if it wasn’t for my team, none of it would be possible.”
Vadon said what helped Friday night be possible was a little talk she had with Lady Tiger coach Deidra Cox earlier on Friday.
“Yesterday (against Sylvania) was not a good day, but I feel like that talk helped me a lot,” she said. “Coach D has helped me a lot. She’s such a good coach.”
Vadon started off slow against Spring Garden, only scoring two points in the first quarter in which Class 2A, No. 5 Cedar Bluff (19-6) led 18-8.
But Vadon got her motor revved up in the second.
She tossed in 10 points to help the Lady Tigers take a 34-13 advantage into halftime. She added 11 more points in the third, and finished with seven more in an abbreviated fourth quarter.
Ciana Smith and Janaya Higgins both rang for 11 points for Cedar Bluff. Smith also grabbed six boards, had three assists and two steals. Higgins had four boards, three steals, a block, and an assist.
Scarlett Brown netted nine points. She also had six rebounds and five steals. Vana Martin finished with seven points, three boards, and three steals.
Addie Word led Spring Garden with nine points. Maya Jennings added seven points. Lacie Jo McMurray sank a pair of 3-pointers and finished with six points.
