Train Derailment in Valley Head Causes Traffic Delays; No Threat to School Operations

Valley Head-The DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is responding to a train derailment involving a Norfolk Southern freight train near Valley Head.
According to DeKalb County EMA, the derailment occurred near County Road 761 and involved approximately five to ten rail cars carrying grain. Emergency officials confirmed that Norfolk Southern crews, along with local emergency personnel, are currently on scene managing the incident and assessing the situation.
Authorities emphasized that there is no danger to the public at this time. In coordination with the DeKalb County Board of Education, EMA officials confirmed that Valley Head School is not at risk and school operations are expected to continue with minimal impact.
However, officials are warning motorists to expect heavy traffic congestion in the area surrounding the derailment. Drivers are advised to avoid the area near County Road 761 if possible and to use alternate routes while response and recovery efforts continue.
DeKalb County EMA stated that the situation remains under active monitoring and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
