COLLINSVILLE, Ala.– The Collinsville Police Chief is recognizing a local restaurant for an act of compassion shown to a family stranded in freezing temperatures.
According to Steven Malone, he was recently on patrol when he observed two young children, their parents, and their dogs walking along the roadway in cold weather conditions. Chief Malone stopped to check on the family’s welfare and learned they had been involved in a motor vehicle accident and were temporarily stranded.

Arrangements were made to secure a hotel room so the family could get out of the cold. Chief Malone then went to Jack’s Restaurant to purchase food for the family.

After learning the circumstances, restaurant staff declined payment, quickly prepared the order, and donated the food. Several employees also asked whether the family needed any additional assistance.
Chief Malone said the gesture serves as a reminder that compassion remains strong in the community.
“In a world where compassion can sometimes feel rare, moments like this remind us that kindness is still very much alive in Collinsville,” he said. “Acts like this make me proud to serve this community.”
He added that he hopes Jack’s upper management recognizes the Collinsville staff, noting they represent an exceptional team and a positive reflection of the community.
The incident highlights the generosity and community spirit found throughout Collinsville.
