Perry caps Warriors’ 27-point rally to stun Sand Rock in Cherokee County Tournament semifinals

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Warriors rallied from a 27-point deficit after three quarters to stun top-seeded Sand Rock 69-67 in the Cherokee County Boys Basketball Tournament semifinals on Friday at Richard Lindsey Arena in Centre.

Tatum Perry took an in-bound pass from Keyshawn Woods underneath the Warrior basket and sank the game-winning shot as time expired to complete the improbable comeback.

Perry led Cherokee County (7-13) with 31 points. Woods finished with 12 points. Nolan Neyman netted 11 points and Owen Jacoway rang for the Warriors.

Jonas Browder delivered 18 points for Sand Rock. Elijah Hood scored 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Will Cleere accounted for 13 points and Jaxon Bruce connected on a pair of treys and finished with eight points.

The Wildcats built a 22-6 lead in the first quarter and held a 40-25 advantage at halftime. Sand Rock’s lead swelled to 61-34 heading into the fourth quarter. The Warriors closed out the game with a furious 35-6 run, capped by Perry’s jumper at the buzzer.

Perry scored 16 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors will play Cedar Bluff for the county championship on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Cedar Bluff 50, Spring Garden 36

CENTRE – The Cedar Bluff Tigers punched their ticket to Saturday’s county championship game with a 50-36 victory over Spring Garden.

Zach Jones led the Tigers (12-9) with 15 points. Shon Gleen rang for 11 points and Jonas Browder finished with eight points.

Brady Ruark topped Spring Garden with eight points. Joel Hunter had six points. Brody Lemons and Erik Rule both finished with five points.

Spring Garden led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, but then Cedar Bluff went on a 19-4 run in the second to take a 29-16 advantage at halftime. The Tigers extended their lead to 42-23 at the end of three quarters.
