Etowah County Jury Conviction Leads to Life in Prison

GADSDEN, Ala.– Logan Thomas Williams appeared before Judge Cody Robinson on Thursday, January 8, 2026, for sentencing following his convictions on charges of Rape in the First Degree, two counts of Sodomy in the First Degree, and Sexual Abuse of a Child less than 12 years of age.

An Etowah County jury found Williams guilty after hearing testimony from the minor victim, which included details of recurring sexual abuse, sodomy, and rape that began when she was nine years old and continued for more than two years.

In sentencing, Judge Robinson cited the victim’s testimony and the severity of the crimes, stating that the nature of the offenses compelled the court to impose punishment consistent with the heinousness of the acts and in compliance with Alabama law.

Judge Robinson ordered Williams to serve a sentence of life imprisonment on each count of Rape in the First Degree and Sodomy in the First Degree, along with a 20-year sentence for Sexual Abuse of a Child less than 12 years of age. The sentences were ordered to run consecutively.

Under Alabama law, individuals convicted of sexual offenses involving a child under the age of 12 are not eligible for probation, parole, Community Corrections, correctional incentive time, or any other early release program.

In closing remarks, Judge Robinson said the most sacred obligation of the court is to protect children, adding that the sentence is intended to demonstrate that those who prey on and abuse children in Etowah County will be punished to the maximum extent allowed by law.

The Etowah County District Attorney’s Office expressed appreciation to the victim and her family, investigators with the Rainbow City Police Department, the James M. Barrie Center, and the Department of Human Resources for their work in the case. The office also expressed gratitude for the sentences imposed and the court’s comments in light of the facts presented.
