Children’s Policy Council of Etowah County to Host Free K.I.D.S. Virtual Workshop
The Children’s Policy Council of Etowah County will host its annual K.I.D.S. Virtual Workshop—Kids in Dangerous Situations on Friday, February 27, 2026. The workshop is free to attend and will be conducted online.
The annual event is designed to educate professionals, caregivers, and community members on critical issues affecting youth safety, mental health, and decision-making. Topics to be covered include understanding anxiety and depression in youth, preventing bullying, addressing alcohol and drug abuse, firearm safety, the misuse of social media, safe campus activity, and helping young people make healthy decisions.

This year’s workshop will feature several guest speakers from mental health, law enforcement, and public safety fields. The schedule includes:

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. – Bridgette Wilson, LICSW, RPT, speaking on anxiety and depression in youth

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. – Lt. Mike Reese presenting Operation Save Teens

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Lunch break

12:30 to 1:30 p.m. – Detective Sergeant Jarrod Pell of the RBC with a presentation titled Take It Down

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. – Gadsden State Police Department Chief Jay Freeman and David Bankston discussing college campus safety
Social workers and nurses who attend the workshop can earn four continuing education units (CEUs). The Family Success Center of Etowah County is the provider for the event.
The Children’s Policy Council of Etowah County encourages professionals working with youth, as well as community members interested in child safety and well-being, to attend this informative and collaborative workshop.
