FORT PAYNE, Ala.- DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden has officially qualified to run for re-election.

Sheriff Welden qualified Monday morning at the DeKalb County Courthouse, accompanied by family members, deputies, staff, and supporters.
Welden is currently serving his second term as sheriff and is seeking a third term in office. He has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience and has led the Sheriff’s Office for nearly eight years.
During that time, Welden says the department has expanded major crimes investigations, launched an aviation unit, strengthened efforts to protect children through the ICAC program, and created the Shining Star program for special needs citizens. He also points to increased staffing, expanded drug enforcement efforts, and improved training and equipment for deputies.
According to the sheriff, DeKalb County has seen record drug arrests, record child crime arrests, and high case closure rates during his tenure.
Welden says his focus remains on fighting crime, supporting deputies, protecting children, and standing up for victims. He added that while not every decision is popular, he believes accountability is to the people of the county, his conscience, and God.
A graduate of Sylvania High School, Welden and his wife Audra are raising their four children on a family farm in Sylvania.
In announcing his candidacy, Welden said his commitment to DeKalb County has not changed and emphasized integrity, transparency, faith, and results over politics.
Qualifying for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s race continues ahead of the upcoming election.
