ATTALLA — A single-family home was damaged by fire Friday evening in the 2300 block of Clanton Street Southwest in Attalla, displacing multiple residents and resulting in the loss of a family pet.

Several people were living in the home at the time of the fire. All residents were able to safely escape the burning structure; however, a dog inside the home was killed in the blaze.
While no injuries were initially reported, one resident later began experiencing breathing complications after escaping the fire and was treated at the scene by medics with AMED Ambulance Service.

The Attalla Fire Department responded to the incident and was assisted by the Gallant and Ivalee Fire Departments. Attalla Police officers and deputies with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene providing assistance and securing the area.

The displaced residents attend Unity Church, which is located directly across the street from the home. The church’s pastor and leadership arrived at the scene shortly after the fire and offered the family shelter, support, and assistance at the church.
No immediate cause of the fire has been released. The incident remains under investigation.
