CENTRE, Ala.– The City of Centre has received a new 2025 International grapple truck that will go into service on Friday, January 9.

The truck was purchased at a cost of around $234,000. Officials said the city only needed one grapple truck to meet current service demands.
The grapple truck will be used exclusively for residential services, including the collection of yard debris such as limbs and brush generated by routine property maintenance. It will also be used during storm response operations to haul debris that would otherwise need to be burned or left on site.
City leaders said the addition strengthens the city’s ability to respond quickly after storms and improves overall efficiency in debris removal.

Officials noted the new equipment supports the City of Centre’s twice-yearly free cleanup campaigns, during which residents can dispose of unwanted household items at no cost. These cleanup events are coordinated with county efforts and typically take place in the spring and fall.
Outside of the free cleanup periods, residents may request pickup of large household items, such as couches and other furniture, for a set, low service fee.
City officials described the grapple truck as a valuable investment that enhances public works services and provides additional options for Centre residents throughout the year.
