Paul McDonald Declares Candidacy for Re-Election as Cherokee County Coroner
Cherokee County-Paul McDonald has officially qualified with the Alabama Republican Party to seek another term as Cherokee County Coroner.

McDonald has served the citizens of Cherokee County since August 2016, first as Chief Deputy Coroner and for the past six years as Coroner. In announcing his re-election bid, McDonald said it has been an honor to serve the community and that he has worked throughout his tenure to carry out the duties of the office with integrity, professionalism, and compassion.
As part of his commitment to maintaining high standards within the Coroner’s Office, McDonald has earned both Diplomat and Fellow certifications through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. He said these credentials reflect his dedication to continued education, accountability, and excellence in medicolegal death investigation.
McDonald emphasized the importance of collaboration in the role of coroner, noting that effective service requires close coordination with law enforcement, emergency responders, medical professionals, and the judicial system. He said his focus remains on ensuring accurate investigations, timely responses, and clear communication while maintaining the dignity of those involved and the trust of the community.
In his announcement, McDonald expressed appreciation for the opportunity to work alongside local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, dispatchers, emergency medical services, and other first responders, and said he looks forward to continuing those partnerships in service to Cherokee County.
McDonald also acknowledged the personal significance of the role, stating that he is grateful for God’s guidance and strength in his work. He said he seeks continued wisdom, discernment, and compassion, emphasizing that the position is ultimately about serving people, supporting families, and honoring life with dignity and respect.
