Two-Vehicle Crash Sends Two to Hospital in Centre

CENTRE — A two-vehicle crash was reported Monday morning on the Clarence E. Chesnut Jr. Bypass in Centre, near the intersection with Jacksonville Street and Peoples Bank of Alabama.

According to initial reports, a silver sedan left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch following the collision. A female passenger in the vehicle was trapped and had to be extricated by first responders at the scene. Both the passenger and the driver of the sedan were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

A dog that remained with the passenger during the extrication process also appeared to have suffered minor injuries. Cherokee County Animal Control officers later took custody of the animal to receive treatment and care until it can be reunited with its owners.

The driver of the second vehicle involved, a 2016 Ford F-450 pulling a trailer, was evaluated at the scene and did not appear to have sustained any serious injuries.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Centre Fire Department, Centre Police Department, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, and Atrium Floyd EMS.

This marks the third accident reported by WEIS News in approximately the same location over the past two weeks. The crash remains under investigation.
