Gadsden Police Receive Hot Wheels Donation for Kids

GADSDEN, Ala.- Gadsden Police Officers now have a new way to brighten a child’s day during traffic stops or on-scene interactions: Hot Wheels cars.

The donation, totaling around 600 cars, was made possible through the efforts of local real estate agent Katie McKenzie and businessman Phillip Williams. McKenzie, inspired by similar programs in other cities, reached out to Williams, a lifelong Hot Wheels collector, to help make the project a reality.

“I’ve been collecting since I was a kid and have amassed quite a selection,” said Williams. “Turning that into a donation for the police department was an awesome idea.”

McKenzie also contacted Mayor Craig Ford’s office to coordinate the project. “This is something small, but it’s something positive for kids to have on their minds during stressful situations,” Williams said.

Both McKenzie and Williams were recognized at a recent City Council meeting for their efforts. Mayor Ford praised the initiative as “a wonderful example of local members of the community working to make our city better.”

Gadsden Police Chief Lamar Jaggears added, “This opens up another way for our officers to show compassion during what may be a stressful situation, and we’re grateful for this contribution.”

The program may continue in the future if it proves successful, with Williams indicating he would be happy to provide additional cars.
