CEDAR BLUFF – For Cedar Bluff senior point guard Kylie Vadon, Christmas came a little early on Friday night in the Class 2A, No. 4 Lady Tigers’ area basketball game against visiting Pleasant Valley.

Vadon shook off an eight-point outing on Tuesday at Sand Rock in a big way. She posted a triple-double, with 43 points, 15 rebounds, 13 steals, and eight assists in the Lady Tigers’ 79-21 victory.

Vadon not only scored a career-high, but she also set a new Cedar Bluff girls basketball record for most points in a single game. The former record was held by Angie Langley, who had 38 points in a game in the mid-1990s.

“I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Vadon said. “I went into this game with a good mindset. I was excited and ready for this game. Our last game (at Sand Rock) was not what we wanted. I could’ve done a lot a better, and we could’ve done a lot better as a whole. I just feel like we weren’t together. It was just a bad night in general, but we were ready in the locker room and we were ready to play this game.”

Vadon scored 17 of her 43 points in the first quarter, in which Cedar Bluff (9-2) jumped out on a 19-0 run and led 27-4 by quarter’s end. The Lady Tigers built a 50-10 edge at halftime.

“That’s not something everybody can say,” Cedar Bluff coach Deidra Cox said. “That’s great for her and for her career that she’s had here at Cedar Bluff.”

Cox said she didn’t know Vadon was nearing a new scoring record, but she was away she was approaching 40 points after her husband and assistant coach Ryan Cox let her know.

“At that point in the game, I was going to let her get 40,” she said. “That’s awesome for her to be able to do that.”

Vana Martin managed 15 points, four rebounds, three steals, and an assist for the Lady Tigers. Janaya Higgins had 10 points, seven boards, five steals, and four assists. Ciana Smith finished with seven points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

Hayden Martin led Pleasant Valley with seven points. Sarah Freeman finished with five points.
