CENTRE, Ala– The Centre City Council moved through a full agenda during its December ninth meeting.
Members approved the accounts payable list and formally appointed Thomas Harris as city prosecutor. The council also approved purchasing three new vehicles for city departments.
An update to the city’s long-standing policies and procedures—unchanged since 1995—was approved. Jacksonville State University will complete the work for seventy-five hundred dollars, paid from the city’s miscellaneous fund.
The Recreation Department received approval to buy new basketball goals and to shift four thousand dollars to purchase a portable filtration system.
In street matters, the council accepted the low bid of forty-four hundred dollars from Ellis Brothers for repairs and approved buying a 2025 International grapple truck for just under two hundred thirty-three thousand dollars.
Members voted to cancel the December 23rd meeting due to the Christmas holiday and declared the city’s poinsettias as surplus.
The meeting also included the announcement that longtime employee Rita Garrett is retiring. Council members thanked her for her service and closed the meeting by recognizing the work behind the Christmas parade and noting the 84th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
