Standoff in Centre Ends Safely; Suspect Arrested on Multiple Charges

Centre- According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a late-night incident in Centre on Monday night resulted in the arrest of a local man following a brief standoff with law enforcement.
Around 10:30 p.m., deputies responded to assist the Centre Police Department on a call involving a man allegedly refusing to allow a woman to exit a vehicle. During the initial investigation, officers determined the encounter had originated within the jurisdiction of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and officers from multiple agencies proceeded to a residence at 210 Day Street in Centre in an effort to make contact with the suspect. Upon entering the home, the man reportedly stated that he was armed and threatened to use the weapon against law enforcement, while holding an object that deputies initially believed to be a firearm.
Authorities established a brief standoff before deploying less-lethal munitions. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody without injury. It was later determined that the object he was holding was not a firearm.
The suspect, identified as Randall Gossett, was arrested and charged with first-degree terroristic threats and resisting arrest.

Sheriff Shaver expressed appreciation to the Centre Police Department, Leesburg Police Department, and Cedar Bluff Police Department for their assistance in bringing the situation to a safe conclusion.
