Cherokee County Sheriff Shares Safety Tips Ahead of Black Friday

Cherokee County-With the holiday shopping season underway, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver is urging residents to stay alert and take extra precautions during the busiest shopping days of the year.

“As we head into the busy holiday shopping season, I want to personally remind everyone to stay alert and take precautions when out and about, especially for this upcoming Black Friday,” Shaver said. “While it’s a fun time for deals and traditions, it’s also important to keep safety in mind.”

The sheriff’s office released several safety reminders for shoppers:

• Keep personal belongings secure and avoid leaving purses or bags unattended in carts or vehicles.
• Lock vehicles and store shopping bags and valuables out of sight.
• Stay aware of surroundings, particularly in crowded stores and parking lots.
• Be cautious of card skimmers and cover keypads when entering a PIN.
• Limit distractions and avoid using phones while walking in busy areas.

Shaver encouraged the community to take simple steps to help ensure a safe and enjoyable start to the holiday season.
