“The Monday Morning Quarterback Club is honored to recognize Alex McPherson as this year’s recipient of the Pat Sullivan Impact Award,” said Club Captain Tommy Sisson. “This award honors Coach Sullivan’s exemplary character—integrity, courage, faith, and kindness. All of these values ring true of Alex, even in the adversity he has faced and overcome. His life is an inspiration to others.”

McPherson, a Fort Payne native, has endured significant health challenges over the past two seasons, including an illness that caused him to lose more than 40 pounds before returning to the team this summer. Despite that setback, he remains one of the most reliable kickers in college football.

A former All-American and All-SEC selection, McPherson holds the top career field-goal percentage in Auburn history at 88.4 percent (38-of-43). That success rate ranks among the top 15 active FBS kickers. He also stands among Auburn’s all-time top 10 in both career field goals made and extra points.

Established in 2024, the Pat Sullivan Impact Award honors individuals in sports whose character and perseverance embody the legacy of Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan. Recipients are recognized for leadership, service, resilience, teamwork, and the ability to inspire others, particularly when overcoming significant adversity. The honoree is selected annually by a committee of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in consultation with the Sullivan family.

The Monday Morning Quarterback Club, founded in 1939 by Birmingham News sports editor Zipp Newman, has long paired its love of football with a commitment to children’s health. Its fundraising efforts helped establish the Crippled Children’s Clinic, and its successor organization, now known as the Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation, has contributed more than $33 million to children’s health charities.
