PIEDMONT, Ala- A structure fire early on Friday morning prompted response from multiple departments in the Piedmont area.

Around 7:20 a.m., Piedmont and Spring Garden fire crews were dispatched to a reported house fire near River City Propane. When firefighters arrived, they found a single-story home with flames and heavy smoke pouring from the back of the residence.

Crews worked quickly to bring the blaze under control. Both departments were able to extinguish the fire, but the house sustained significant fire and smoke damage throughout.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
