Centre Couple Arrested Following Grand Jury Indictment for First-Degree Theft

A Centre couple has been arrested following a Grand Jury indictment related to the alleged misappropriation of funds from a local youth sports organization.

David Akin and Beverly Akin, both of Centre, were taken into custody on Wednesday on charges of Theft of Property in the First Degree.

According to the Centre Police Department, the investigation began in late September 2025 after officers received a report of missing funds from the Cherokee County Youth Football League. Detectives launched an inquiry into the allegations and discovered what authorities describe as a substantial amount of money unaccounted for.

The findings were presented to a Cherokee County Grand Jury in early November. After reviewing the evidence, the Grand Jury determined there was sufficient cause to indict both David and Beverly Akin on felony theft charges.

Centre Police officials noted that the investigation is now moving forward through the court system.

Authorities emphasized that all individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
