Sand Rock girls finish runner-up, boys fifth in 1A-2A cross country state championship

MOULTON – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats finished runner-up to Cold Springs in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 1A-2A Cross Country State Championship on Saturday. The Wildcat boys finished fifth.

The event was held at Oakville Indian Mounds Park’s Jesse Owens Course just outside of Moulton.

Leading the Lady Wildcats was Amelia Ford, who finished ninth with a time of 21:11.18. Katelin Stiefel came in 11th with a time of 21:26.11.

The Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers had a pair of top 10 individual finishers in Scarlett Brown and Vana Martin. Brown took third place with a time of 19:47.78. Martin managed a time of 21:03.03 to earn eighth place.

In the 1A-2A boys 5K, Brody Johnson topped Sand Rock by finishing fourth with a time of 16:39.42. Dalton Oliver earned eighth place with a time of 17:26.59.

Cedar Bluff’s boys team qualified for state for the first time. The Tigers took 11th and were led by Zach Jones in 16th with a time of 17:57.49.

The Collinsville Lady Panthers came in 10th in the 3A girls run. Jennifer Coronado came in 52nd with a time of 24:22.7 to lead the Lady Panthers.

Piedmont’s Mattie Todd took 10th individually with a time of 21:04.2.

In Class 3A boys, Collinsville’s Xavi Hernandez took 34th individually with a time of 18:39.84.

Piedmont’s boys finished 13th. Logan Wilson paced the Bulldogs with a time of 19:02.8 to come in 43rd place.
