Piedmont blanks Glencoe, finishes regular football season undefeated

PIEDMONT – The Piedmont Bulldogs clinched their second straight Class 3A, Region 6 football title and the school’s sixth undefeated regular season since 1990 with a 46-0 victory over visiting Glencoe on Friday.

The Bulldogs (10-0, 8-0) built a 24-0 halftime lead and held a 39-0 edge at the end of the third quarter. It was Piedmont’s 11th straight win over the Yellow Jackets (7-3, 6-2), who are coached by former Bulldog standout Bayley Blanchard.

Cole Austin had a pair of 7-yard touchdown runs and had 59 yards on 10 carries. Rollie Pinto also had a pair of touchdowns from 11 and 22 yards and finished with 41 yards on six carries. He also caught a pair of passes for 55 yards. Mason Morrow also had two catches for 66 yards and a 42-yard touchdown catch from Pinto in the fourth quarter.

Chase Kirkpatrick returned an interception 45 yards for a score in the second quarter.

Both teams are headed to the Class 3A state playoffs. Glencoe will travel to Winfield while Piedmont will host Phil Campbell next Friday.
