Centre Fire Department Offering Free Smoke Alarm Installations for Residents

Centre, Ala. — The Centre Fire Department is offering free smoke alarm installations for city residents as part of its ongoing effort to improve home safety and prevent fire-related deaths.

Fire Chief Robert Pace said the department will provide and install the smoke alarms at no cost. The initiative aims to ensure that every home in Centre has working alarms to provide early warning in the event of a fire.

According to the department, residents may have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home. Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of dying in a house fire by nearly half. National statistics show that about two-thirds of home fire deaths occur in homes with no alarms or with alarms that are not functioning.

Residents can schedule an installation by calling the Centre Fire Department at 256-927-3333 during regular office hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
