Body of Missing Summerville Woman Found at Chattooga County Waste Facility
SUMMERVILLE, Ga. — The search for a missing Summerville woman ended tragically over the weekend after authorities discovered her body inside a waste transport trailer at the Chattooga County Transfer Station.
According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and WZQZ, 55-year-old Kimberly Lindsey was found after an extensive search involving multiple local agencies.
The investigation began when deputies were called to a home in West Summerville to investigate a report of a stolen vehicle. Family members told authorities that Lindsey had driven away earlier in a car belonging to her daughter’s grandmother and had not been heard from since.
Later that day, relatives located the abandoned vehicle near dumpsters behind a Family Dollar store. They informed investigators that Lindsey was known to look through dumpsters for discarded items.
Sheriff Mark Schrader, along with Summerville Police, responded to the scene. Lindsey’s boyfriend told officers she had appeared to be under the influence of prescription medication during a prior encounter. Deputies soon learned that a local waste company had emptied those dumpsters earlier in the day.
A search was then launched at the county transfer station, focusing on a trailer believed to contain material collected from the Family Dollar site. After carefully removing debris, investigators discovered Lindsey’s body inside the trailer.
Her remains have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Authorities say at this time, foul play is not suspected.
