COLLINSVILLE – Mason McAteer completed 24-of-33 pass attempts for 362 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also ran for 56 yards and a score on 13 carries, but the Collinsville Panthers fell short to Geraldine 29-19 in Class 3A, Region 8 football action on Friday.
The Bulldogs (5-1, 4-0) built a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, but Collinsville (4-2, 2-2) came roaring back to make it a 14-12 game before halftime on a pair of 15-yard touchdown passes from McAteer to Noah Johnson and Gavin Lang.
Lang had eight catches for 128 yards and a score. Johnson hauled in five passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. Sylas Adams led the Panther receivers with 11 catches for 138 yards.
McAteer gave Collinsville its first lead in the third quarter on a 9-yard touchdown run. Uriel Cornejo’s extra point provided the Panthers a 19-14 advantage.
The Bulldogs regained the lead later in the quarter at 22-19 on a touchdown run and 2-point conversion. Geraldine scored the only touchdown in the fourth quarter for the final.
Collinsville hosts Sylvania on Friday.
