Cherokee County, Cedar Bluff reach county volleyball tournament championship

CENTRE – Top-seeded Cherokee County defeated Sand Rock, and Cedar Bluff bested Spring Garden in the Cherokee County Volleyball Tournament semifinals on Saturday at Cherokee County High School. The two teams will play for the tournament title on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Richard Lindsey Arena on the Gadsden State-Cherokee campus in Centre.

In Cherokee County’s 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 match victory over Sand Rock, a pair of Lady Warriors reached career milestones.

Macy Lea earned her 4,000th career assist. She finished with 27 assists, three kills, three digs and a block.

Ava Haygood also earned her 1,000th career kill. She finished with 10 kills and 12 digs.

Nevaeh Gaidurgis delivered 15 kills, six digs, two aces and two blocks. Mattie Green posted four kills, two digs, and a block. Raegan Garmany contributed three kills, three blocks, and a dig. Taniya Fife collected four digs, two kills, two assists, a block, and an ace. Ellisan Givens gained 14 digs, three aces, and three assists. Jesslyn Hincy finished with 11 digs and an ace.

Cedar Bluff reached the championship match by defeating Spring Garden 25-14, 17-25, 25-14 and 25-11.

Rylie Walker collected 31 assists, 15 digs, five aces and four kills for the Lady Tigers. Kindal Grace contributed 13 digs, 12 kills, and two aces. Janaya Higgins delivered nine kills, nine digs, three aces, and a block.

Blakelea Hall posted 14 digs, three kills, and three aces. Anslee Evans added eight digs, three kills, an ace, and a block. Vana Martin had four digs. Mackenzie Kimmons finished with three digs and a kill.

Sand Rock reached the tournament semifinals by defeating Gaylesville 25-15, 25-8, 25-6 in the tournament’s opening match.

For the day, Megan Smith posted 13 kills and 24 digs. Emma Sipsy earned 27 digs, seven aces, and seven kills. Caitlyn Lynch came away with nine kills and five aces.

Maddie Clanton contributed 39 assists. Macey Pruitt managed seven kills. Paitlyn Hughes finished with six kills and 19 digs.
