Baker, Ruark run Spring Garden past Cedar Bluff on homecoming

SPRING GARDEN – Ben Baker accumulated 180 yards on 10 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns. Brady Ruark added 155 yards on eight totes with three scores to lead Spring Garden to a 42-14 homecoming football victory over Cedar Bluff on Friday.

Baker scored Spring Garden’s first two touchdowns on runs of 30 and 50 yards to put the Panthers (4-2) up 14-0 in the first quarter. Clayton Sadler added a 6-yard scoring run just before the first quarter ended for a 21-0 advantage.

Ruark scored Spring Garden’s next three touchdowns, including two in the second quarter on runs of 76 and 53 yards that pushed the Panther lead to 35-0 at halftime.

Ruark added a 1-yard run in the third to give Spring Garden a 42-0 edge.

Cedar Bluff (2-4) scored its two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the final. Jamison Miller, who led the Tigers with 115 yards on five carries, scored the first TD on a 12-yard run on the first play of the fourth. Jeremiah Miller added the 2-point conversion.

Jeremiah Miller also scored on a 1-yard run on the last play of the game for the final. He finished with 61 yards on 18 carries. Kadien Tracy added 47 yards on nine totes for the Tigers.

Zane Edwards and Cayden Thompson led the Panther defense with 10 tackles apiece. Colton Driskell and Bryant Williams both had eight stops for the Panthers.

Spring Garden is at Appalachian next Friday. Cedar Bluff hosts Pleasant Valley.
