Oil Spill Causes Traffic Delays on Highway 77 in Southside
SOUTHSIDE, Ala. – Motorists experienced delays on Highway 77 in Southside Thursday morning after an oil spill was reported along the roadway.
Mark Owen of the Southside Road Department told WEIS that the exact source of the spill is currently unknown. Crews from the Southside Police and Fire Departments responded promptly to the scene, and the road department deployed oil-dry to begin the cleanup process. The spill in near AJ’s Bar and Grill.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ADOT) has since taken over management of the incident. Owen confirmed that cleanup efforts are ongoing and advised drivers to expect potential delays while crews work to restore normal traffic flow.
Authorities ask that motorists exercise caution while traveling in the affected area. WEIS will provide updates as more information becomes available.
