Gadsden Police Warn Community About Bail Bond Scam
The Gadsden Police Department is alerting residents to a new scam involving individuals posing as bail bonding agents
GADSDEN, Ala. – The Gadsden Police Department is alerting residents to a new scam involving individuals posing as bail bonding agents. According to authorities, the scammers are contacting people and demanding payment through apps such as CashApp, Venmo, or other instant money transfer services.
The department stresses that legitimate bail bonding companies do not request payments via these apps or through gift cards. All payments for bail are processed through official, documented channels. Residents are urged to be cautious if anyone pressures them to “send money right now” to secure the release of a loved one, as this is almost certainly a scam.
Gadsden police advise anyone contacted by such scammers to not send money, not share personal or financial information, and report suspicious activity to the department at (256) 549-4500.
The department also emphasizes that they will never call residents requesting payment. Any issues related to bail are handled through the court system, not over the phone.
Authorities encourage residents to share this information with friends and family to prevent others from falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.
