Mr. J.M. Hunter, age 67 of Leesburg, passed away on September 18, 2025, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 20th at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ken Pace and Bro. Don Abernathy officiating. His family will receive friends from 10 AM until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Survivors include his brothers, Howard (Kay) Abernathy, Ralph Hunter, Billy Gene Hunter; Sisters, Dianne Hooper, Debra Gwin; Children, Shane (Kylie Harrell) Hunter, Sharon (Donald Ubele) Hunter, Savannah (Dominique Lawrence) Hunter, Wendy (Tim) Jones, Misty (Bobby) Golden; Grandchildren, Levi (Laekyn) Stroud, Sarrah (D.J. Nichols) Hunter, Khrista Kelly, Christine (Bradley Hardeman) Kelly, Taylor (Hunter) Simpson, Tauren Golden, Jesse Davis, Serenity Hunter, Tristin Hunter, Letty Gregg, Kandon Harrell; Great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Greyson, Finley, Fisher, Lyru, Brayden, and Kaelyn; Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Hunter was born in Centre, AL to the late Buck and Sara Ruth Hunter. He was a loving father, husband, friend, grandfather, and great-grandfather. J.M. was a wild one back in his day and was very well-known. He was also a wonderful person at heart and loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren unconditionally. They were his world! Consider yourself a true friend if you ever had a late-night knock at your door from him. J.M. will be truly and greatly missed by many, as he loved and was loved by many.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 30 years, Tammy Martin-Hunter, nephew, Brandon Gwin, niece, Tracie Hunter, and several aunts and uncles.

The family is accepting flowers, but also taking donations to help with the costs of Mr. Hunter’s services through his obituary featured on our website.
