Single-Vehicle Rollover Accident in Centre
One transported to Area Hospital
CENTRE – An early morning rollover accident in Centre sent one man to the hospital Wednesday. The crash happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. on the Clarence E. Chesnut Jr. Bypass at the Emblem Bank property.
According to reports, a silver Dodge truck traveling toward Highway 411 left the roadway, lost control, and overturned down a steep embankment, coming to rest on its side at the base of the Emblem Bank sign. The driver was trapped inside and had to be extracted by emergency crews. He was conscious and able to communicate with first responders before being treated at the scene and transported by Atrium Floyd EMS to an area hospital for further evaluation.
A witness told WEIS news that the vehicle’s tires went off the edge of the roadway, causing the driver to lose control.
Centre Police, the Centre Fire Department, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and Atrium Floyd EMS all responded to the scene. Traffic in the direction of 411 was reduced to one lane as crews worked to free the driver and remove the vehicle.
The truck struck utility boxes during the crash. It was not immediately known if internet or other services were affected, as utility companies were expected to inspect the damage.
The accident remains under investigation.
