Anniston to Transition to New Residential Trash Provider Sept. 29

Anniston to Transition to New Residential Trash Provider Sept. 29

ANNISTON, Ala. – The City of Anniston will transition to a new residential trash provider at the end of this month. Beginning Monday, September 29, 2025, 121 Disposal Company will officially take over garbage collection services for city residents.

The change comes after the Anniston City Council unanimously awarded the city’s new contract to 121 Disposal earlier this month. The new arrangement includes weekly curbside bulk item pickup in addition to regular trash collection, with no added cost to residents. Under the new system, residents will receive billing directly from 121 Disposal rather than through the City.

Republic Services Final Week of Service
Republic Services will provide its final week of trash collection from Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26. Service will end according to the following schedule:

  • Monday customers – last service day: September 22

  • Tuesday customers – last service day: September 23

  • Wednesday customers – last service day: September 24

  • Thursday customers – last service day: September 25

  • Friday customers – last service day: September 26

During this final week, Republic will also collect its trash carts. Residents are asked to place carts out on their regular service day and leave them curbside until they have been retrieved. There will be no service September 29–30, as those days are reserved for cart removals.

New Service Details
121 Disposal will deliver one new cart per household between September 15–29. Residents who need more than one cart should call 256-251-3949 to request additional containers.

Bulk item collection will be provided on the same day as regular trash pickup. Each residence is limited to one bulk pile not exceeding 6 feet by 6 feet by 4 feet. Acceptable bulk items include tree limbs under 6 feet, old furniture, mattresses, box springs, and similar household waste. Items not accepted include hazardous materials, concrete, tires, oversized piles, and anything weighing more than 500 pounds.

By January 1, 2026, all residents must create an online account with 121 Disposal for billing. The monthly residential service fee will remain $21.00, with additional carts costing $10.01 each. The City will issue refunds in January for any credits left with Republic Services.

Exemptions and Special Notes
Current billing exemptions will continue, but residents must reapply with 121 Disposal before January 1, 2026.
