15 charged with drug related charges during the month of August

FORT PAYNE, Ala. —During the month of August DeKalb County Deputies, Major Crimes Unit and K-9 Unit, Rainsville, Geraldine, Mentone, Crossville, Ider and Sylvania PD’s, a DeKalb County Constable and DHR for always coming to help with the children, assisted in the arrest of 15 who were charged with drug related charges.
On Friday, August 1st, Officers with Ider PD made a traffic stop for suspected DUI at Hwy 75 and Hwy 40. During the stop the driver was identified as Tommy Lee Bonner (32 of Fort Payne). Upon approach, Officers observed marijuana in the vehicle. During a search, officers also found Xanax pills. Narcotics Agents were called and responded. Bonner was charged withUnlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On Sunday, August 3rd, Dekalb County Deputies were on County Road 52 looking for a wreck when they come across a vehicle at County Road 52 and County Road 62. Deputies found the vehicle occupied by Terry Don Wooten (44 of Collinsville) and Phillip Keith Vaughn (46 of Dawson). Deputies could see a bottle of liquor and could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. Deputies found that Wooten had multiple active warrants. During a search of the vehicle, marijuana and a large amount of methamphetaminewere found. Narcotics Agents were called and responded. Wooten and Vaughnwere bothcharged withTrafficking in any Illegal Drug, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Beverage.
On Friday, August 8th, Dekalb County Deputy were on County Road 227 and attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding. The vehicle fled and after a pursuit Colby Jacob Nikiah Wells (27 of Fort Payne) and Brandon Lee Cain (24 of Geraldine) were found to be in the vehicle. Geraldine Police, Crossville Police and DeKalb County Constable assisted. While on the scene a weapon, ski mask, marijuana and methamphetamine were found in the vehicle. Narcotics Agents were called and responded.Wells was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd.Cain was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, DUI (controlled Substance), Attempt to Elude, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd.
On Sunday, August 10th, DeKalb County Deputies andOfficers with Mentone PD went to a residence in Valley Head to assist DHR. Upon arrival Law Enforcement found multiple suspects in the yard smoking marijuana. During a search,drug paraphernalia and multiple marijuana plants in and around the residence, were found. James Allen McElhaney (46 of Valley Head) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On Tuesday, August 19th, DeKalb County Deputies andOfficers with Geraldine PD made a traffic stop on Salem Road in Geraldine for expired tag and failure to use a turn signal. During the stop the driver was identified as Jason James Callaghan (53 of Albertville). During the stop a DeKalb County K-9 was deployed and alerted on the vehicle. Kratom pills and methamphetamine was located in the vehicle. The DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit was called and responded and Callaghan was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2) and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Also, on Tuesday, DeKalb County Deputy went to a residence in Kilpatrick to attempt to serve active warrants on a Shane Curtis Walker (34 of Albertville). During a search of the residence Walker was found in the bathroom smoking methamphetamine. The DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit was called and responded. Walker was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, along with his active warrants.
On Friday, August 22nd, the DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit went to a residence on County Road 1000, after receiving a complaint of drug activity. During a search Kratom and marijuana was found. Alexander Castro-Perez(20 of Valley Head) was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On Saturday, August 23rd, DeKalb County Deputies attempted to stop a four-wheeler on County Road 391. After a pursuit and then a foot pursuit Deputies were able to arrest the male suspect identified as William Lee Simmons (35 of Albertville). Simmons was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, suboxone and marijuana. The Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded to the scene. Simmons was charged withUnlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2), Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st, Attempt to Elude and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On Monday, August 25th, Sylvania Police Officers stopped a vehicle on West Street for speeding. During the stop the driver was identified as Elton Dewayne Poore (53 of Flat Rock). Officers found that Poore had active felony warrants and he was arrested. During his arrest Poore was found to
be in possession of Methamphetamine and Marijuana. The Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded to the scene and Poore was charged withUnlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On Tuesday, August 26th, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Al Hwy 75 in Henagar. The driver of the vehicle, Angel Danielle Fraley (34 of Henagar) was found to have active warrants.During the stop Fraleywas found to be in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. The Major Crimes Unit and DHR was contacted,due to an infant also being in the vehicle, responded to the scene. Fraley was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
On Wednesday, August 27th, DeKalb County Deputies and The Major Crimes Unit attempted to stop a vehicle in the Blake area for no tag. After a pursuit the vehicle stopped and a male suspect identified as Randy Lamar Crawford(52 of Sylvania) jumped out of the driver’s seat and threw something onto the ground. After a struggle Deputies were able to get Crawfordunder control and he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Crawford was charged with Attempting to Elude, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest and Tampering with Evidence.
Again, on Wednesday, DeKalb County Deputies and Rainsville Police Officers responded to a residence on County Road 502 for a Burglary in progress. Upon arrival they made contact with the home owner. After searching the property, a female suspect identified as Brittany Paige York (31 of Fyffe) was found inside. York was found to be in possession of marijuana and was arrested. While enroute to the jail York attempted to get rid of drug paraphernalia in the back of the patrol unit. After arriving at the jail,York resisted Officers and attempted to get rid of a baggie of methamphetamine. Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded to the scene. York was charged with Promote Prison Contraband 2nd, Tampering with Evidence, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Burglary 3rd.
On Friday, August 29th, DeKalb County Deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint at County Road 179 and County Road 433 in Kilpatrick when a vehicle turned around to avoid the checkpoint. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and it fled at a high rate of speed. After getting the suspect stopped Deputies arrested the male driver and he was identified as Benito Reyes Gijon (31 of Boaz). During the arrest Deputies found methamphetamine in Gijon’s wallet. DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded to the scene. Gijon was charged with Attempt to Elude, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substanceand Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
