Harbin Clinic Family Medicine Rome Welcomes Dr. Gerald “JP” Megna
ROME, Ga., Sept. 10, 2025 – Harbin Clinic is proud to welcome Dr. Gerald “JP” Megna to Harbin Clinic Family Medicine Rome. Megna is a family medicine physician with qualifications in sports medicine. He began seeing patients on Aug. 31.
Megna grew up in a close-knit suburb of south Florida and completed his undergraduate degree at Florida State University with a degree in exercise science. He then pursued a master’s degree in medical science at the University of South Florida.
“I always liked the sciences and thought about being a doctor,” Megna said, “but no one in my family is in the medical field, so I didn’t know what all it entailed.”
Following his master’s degree, he attended medical school at Florida State University, where the medical school’s focus on training primary care physicians for rural areas resonated with Megna.
“Going into medical school, I thought I was going to be like a plastic surgeon or something,” he said. “But through that time, talking to my mentor, he helped me consider specialties that fit my personality.”
Megna completed his residency and fellowship in Greenwood, South Carolina, a small town that helped shape his appreciation for slower-paced living and community connection.
“You take care of your community, and you get to know people there. You have the privilege of becoming a pillar of a place,” he said. “I want to continue to build relationships with patients like I did in Greenwood.”
Megna’s medical philosophy centers on building trust and connection.“Patients don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” he said. “You’ve got to get to know them as a person, and make them feel comfortable.”
Outside of medicine, Megna enjoys hiking, exploring national parks and staying active.
